A great Team performance from Team India. Skipper Rohit Sharma with bat and Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah lead India to beat England by 100 runs in a low scoring duel in Lucknow on Sunday. Mohammed Shami (4 for 22) shone with a four-wicket haul. India successfully defended a total of 229 for 9 against England. After that Bumrah, Shami, Kuldeep and Jadeja succeeded in restricting the English side to 129. In ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, India has picked up the sixth victory in a row, as they defeated defending champions England.
It was not a easy wicket to bat in Lucknow on Sunday. English captain Jos Buttler won the toss and invited India to bat first. Before India match England already lost four consecutive games. They were on back foot. But English bowlers showed their class today. Shubman, Kohli and Iyer went to the pavilion early. In 12 overs India was 40/3. Then Rohit Sharma played his captain’s knock. With KL Rahul (39 runs off 58 balls) he made 89 runs partnership on 4th wicket. Then Suryakumar Yadav played a comfortable innings of 49 runs off 47 balls. But today Rohit was the main constructor of the Indian Innings. India had scored 229/9 in 50 overs. Willey got figures of 3-45, including the precious wicket of Virat Kohli for a nine-ball duck. Chris Woakes and leg-spinner Adil Rashid picked up two wickets each.
Then defending 229 runs Indian bowlers striked. Mohammed Shami led an inspired bowling display. Chasing 230 runs for victory, England collapsed to 129 all out in 34.5 overs. Shami took 4 wickets while Bumrah snapped up 3 wickets as the Indian pacers shared 7 wickets between them. Other than Liam Livingstone, no english batter crossed the 20 runs mark. Livingstone scored the highest for english side, 27 off 46 balls. Bumrah kept bowling in the tight channels and provided the early breakthroughs. Then Shami was almost unplayable today. With the sixth win on a row India go to the top of the points table.
