Kohli will score the 50th century to beat Tendulkar : Gavaskar

Indian great Sunil Gavaskar feels Virat Kohli will break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Virat Kohli narrowly missed out on equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of highest ODI century at Dharamshala against New Zealand. He scored an important 95 to guide India towards successful run chase. After long 20 years India won a game against New Zealand in World Cup.

Former Indian skipper Kohli is just one century away from matching Tendulkar’s record of highest hundreds in the ODI format. Sachin has 49 centuries in ODI format. On the other hand Virat Kohli has 48 International centuries in the 50-over format. Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar thinks, Virat Kohli will surpass the Master Blaster in the ongoing edition of the World Cup. According to former India skipper Gavaskar, Kohli will shatter Tendulkar’s world record soon.

Gavaskar told star storts, “I don’t know about the 49th but I know about the record-breaking 50th. Kohli will slam his 50th ODI century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? It’s a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savour for every batter.”

India will face England in Lucknow on Sunday. After that the match is against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. Kohli recently became the fastest batter to score 26,000 runs in international cricket. Kohli achieved the record in 511 games breaking Tendulkar’s record of scoring that in 664 matches. He is also the first Indian player to score 3,000 runs across all ICC white-ball tournaments.
