World Cup 2023 : Is Rachin Ravindra Named After Sachin Tendulkar & Rahul Dravid?

Rachin Ravindra! This Indian origin young batter is ruling the ICC Cricket World 2023 for New Zealand. He is the third highest run getter in World Cup 2023 till now, with a tally of 565 runs in 9 matches, three centuries and 2 half-centuries. With his performance New Zealand reached the world cup semi-final fifth time in a row and will aim to make a third consecutive final. It was claimed that Rachin is named after two Indian cricket Legend Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. But Rachin’s father, Ravi Krishnamurthy denied that.

Ravindra’s father Ravi Krishnamurthy, who migrated to New Zealand from Bengaluru, claimed that the name of Rachin was suggested by his wife and it was years later that they realised the name was a mixture of Sachin and Rahul. He said, “When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it.” “The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort,” he added.

Rachin is actually all rounder. But in this world cup he is acting with his bat. When the Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson got injured, he played his role at number three. His father himself used to play cricket. He said, “As parents, our hopes for our children extend to any field they choose to pursue. When Rachin expressed an interest in cricket, we supported him wholeheartedly and hoped he would excel in it, just as we would for our daughter in her chosen path.” New Zealand will face India on Wednesday at Mumbai in Semi-final.
