Virat Kohli : Question mark about Kohli’s position in T20

There was always a question mark about Kohli’s position in the playing XI of India in T20. Virat Kohli reportedly “hasn’t been able to cope with the team’s needs in the shortest format.” The BCCI selectors are prepared to take a harsh call, says the report.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already confirmed that Rohit as the captain of India will be leading India’s charge in the T20 World Cup 2024. But the same cannot be said about Virat Kohli, as his position in the team has not been confirmed yet. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decided to take a break from the shortest format after India’s loss in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Hardik Pandya was given the charge of the T20I side. Then Rohit and Kohli returned in T20Is after about 15 months during the home series against Afghanistan.

The report states that the selectors believe Kohli hasn’t been at his best in the T20 format, but that thought may demand a rethink if Kohli performed as per mark in the upcoming IPL season for RCB. The report quotes a source as saying that it “remains a very delicate matter and not many (in the BCCI) are willing to get involved”, leaving the final decision to the board’s selection committee led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar.
