Lucknow Super Giants register their first win of the season. They won by 21 runs against Punjab Kings at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. After the LSG batters posted a score of 199 runs, Mayank Yadav sealed this win for them with a brilliant spell. He bowled four overs conceded 27 runs in it and claimed three wickets.
Lucknow Super Giants stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to bat first against Punjab Kings. Lucknow Super Giants reached to 199/8 in 20 overs.They kept losing wickets at regular intervals but there was a batter at one end who kept going and helped Lucknow to post a formidable total at their home ground. LSG lost early wickets in the powerplay. They lost KL Rahul (15) and Devdutt Padikkal (9). But impressive knocks came from Quinton de Kock (54 off 38 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (42 off 21 balls). Later Krunal Pandya (43* off 22 balls) also joined the party.
For Punjab, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow came out dominating the powerplay. Both the openers attacked the bowlers and had a fantastic opening partnership of 102 runs. young pacer – Mayank Yadav came into the attack and bowled an amazing spell. He hit the 150-kph mark regularly and made it trouble for Punjab batters with his pace and bounce. He broke the opening partnership dismissing Jonny Bairstow (42 off 29 balls). Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Though skipper Shikhar Dhawan fought hard with his 70-run knock but it wasn’t enough for his side. Even after Liam Livingstone’s late cameo of 28 runs off 17 balls, Punjab fell short by 21 runs.
