Gujarat Titans stays alive in IPL 2024. They won by 35 runs against Chennai Super Kings. Chennai suffered a big defeat at a crucial stage of the season. Skipper Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan smashed brilliant hundreds in a record double hundred plus opening stand as Gujarat Titans posted 231 for 3. But CSK managed to reach 196 for 8 after 20 overs.
Batting first Gujarat posted a mammoth total on the board courtesy of a recording-breaking opening stand of 210 runs between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Both of them were sensational. Sudharsan struck 103 off 51 balls with five fours and seven sixes while Gill scored 104 off 55 balls with nine fours and six sixes. They equalled the record set by Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul in 2022. GT posted 231 for 3 on the board.
Chasing the stiff target, CSK witnessed terrible start. They lost Rachin Ravindra (1), Ajinkya Rahane (1) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) within first 3 overs. Then Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34 balls) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36 balls) shared 109 runs for the fourth wicket. Towards the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a 11-ball 26-run cameo but in vain. The target was too stiff for CSK. They were eventually restricted to 196 for 8 in 20 overs. For GT, Mohit Sharma (3/31) and Rashid Khan (2/38) picked the best figure. Gujarat with this win stay alive in theory for a place in play-offs.
