‘Gayle of Ranchi’ Robin Minz Get IPL Break as Signed Up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.6 crore

The Minz family has roots in Telgaon, a village in the tribal belt in Gumla district. Francis Xavier Minz was also a sports person. It was his love for athletics that got him a job in the Army. After joining the armed forces, the family moved to Ranchi. It was here that Robin picked up cricket inspired by MS Dhoni. The young boy would pick up wicket-keeping and batting just like his hero under his hero’s coach Chanchal Bhattacharya’s wings.

Robin’s father Francis has a Dhoni story. “I had met Dhoni at the airport recently. He told me, if no one picks him (Robin), we will,” he says. Now Robin trains at Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi under three coaches. Asif Haque, his batting coach compared him to Chris Gayle.
