His father is a 48-year-old retired Army man, working as a security guard, employed by a firm, at Ranchi airport. We are talking about Robin Minz, son of Francis Xavier Minz, who picked up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.6 crore in recent IPL Auction. 21-year-old young tallent also known as ‘Gayle of Ranchi’! He also caught the eye of MS Dhoni, as MS once promised Mr. Minz, if noone pick Robin from auction, he will do that.
The Minz family has roots in Telgaon, a village in the tribal belt in Gumla district. Francis Xavier Minz was also a sports person. It was his love for athletics that got him a job in the Army. After joining the armed forces, the family moved to Ranchi. It was here that Robin picked up cricket inspired by MS Dhoni. The young boy would pick up wicket-keeping and batting just like his hero under his hero’s coach Chanchal Bhattacharya’s wings.
Robin’s father Francis has a Dhoni story. “I had met Dhoni at the airport recently. He told me, if no one picks him (Robin), we will,” he says. Now Robin trains at Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi under three coaches. Asif Haque, his batting coach compared him to Chris Gayle.
