Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan, thanked India for their historical win over Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 match. Before their match against Afghanistan, Pakistan were defeated against the Indian cricket team and the Australian cricket team. Against Afghanistan, they needed a win to make easy their chances for semifinals. But instead the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afgan side stunned the higher-ranked Pakistan team by eight wickets. Pakistan got a heavy jolt with that loss. Their journey to semifinals is looking quite impossible now.
In Chennai, Afghanistan restricted Pakistan to 282/7 in 50 overs on Monday. They got quick wickets. So, top order of Pak team collapsed again. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (74 off 92) and opener Abdullah Shafique (58 off 75 balls) scored half-centuries. Though the team plundered 91 runs from the final 10 overs. Shadab Khan got 40 of 38 and Iftikhar Ahmed smashed 40 off 27 balls. Then chasing 283 to win, Afghanistan rode on the back of impressive innings from Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77 not out), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out) to reach their target with six balls to spare.
For their massive eight wickets win over Pakistan, Afgan spinner thanked India, actually Indian fans. They got total fan supports on Chennai ground.
