Shimron Hetmyer won the match for Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by 3 wickets in the last-over thriller. Hetmyer scored 10-ball 27 not out and finished it off in style with a six with a ball to spare.
Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl against Shikhar Dhawan-less Punjab Kings at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. But Punjab’s top-order failed to contribute anything significant. After losing Jonny Bairstow, stand-in-skipper Sam Curran and Prabhsimran Singh also failed. At last Ashutosh Sharma (31 off 16 balls), Jitesh Sharma (29 off 24 balls) and Livingstone (21 off 14 balls) tried to force the pace. They scored 61 runs in the last five overs, but their effort came a wee bit late. They posted 147/8 in 20 overs.
After the first innings, punjab fought hard. Rajasthan didn’t lose a single wicket in the powerplay but they managed to score just 38 runs in that phase. The asking rate was under check but Rabada picked two crucial wickets of Jaiswal and Samson in two overs. At last phase when RR needed 33 runs in 16 balls, two Caribbean hard-hitter Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell joined the pitch. They scored 18 runs in 4 balls but Curran picked Powell with a short ball. With 10 needed off the final over, Hetmyer keep his cool and take his team over the victory with a six.
