Dhoni Storm in Vain! Delhi Capitals registered their first win in IPL 2024 session in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Strong fifties by captain Rishabh Pant and veteran opener David Warner led Delhi Capitals to 191 for five against Chennai Super Kings. But CSK fell short by 20 runs.
Young opener Prithvi Shaw and veteran David Warner started their innings comfortably. They scored 62 runs in the powerplay. Delhi Capitals lost their first wicket as Warner (52 off 35 balls) on team total 93. Next over Prithvi Shaw (43 off 27 balls) also got out. But Rishabh Pant scored his first half-century of the season. He was dismissed by Pathirana on 51 off 32 balls and DC eventually ended their 20 overs with a score of 191/5.
Delhi Capitals’ pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma put pressure on CSK batters. Khaleel was brilliant. He got Ruturaj on his first over. Rachin, who has been on fire so far in this tournament, couldn’t get bat to ball for more than half of the 12 deliveries he faced, eventually getting caught for 2. Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell built a partnership in between. But due to effective bowling from Axar Patel in the middle they never allowed to break free. Rahane eventually fell for 45 off 30. At last Dhoni put some efforts with 37 off 16 balls, it wastoo late for CSK. They lost the game by 20 runs.
