Dhoni has captained Super Kings since the IPL began in 2008. Gaikwad has been part of CSK since 2019. He has played 52 matches for the team.
IPL disclosed the news of Dhoni in a post on X shortly after releasing a picture of all captains posing with the IPL trophy on Thursday. The posted on X “Presenting @ChennaiIPL’s Captain – @Ruutu1331,” with the new CSK Captain’s photo. India, Gaikwad made his debut for CSK in 2020 and has since played 52 matches. Gaikwad has 1797 runs from 52 matches at an average of 39.06 and a strike rate of 135.52. He had a remarkable performance last year, amassing 590 runs in 16 games with an impressive strike rate of 147.50.

CSK said in a statement on their website, “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season.” Dhoni led CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad last year.
