The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings have started their IPL 2024 journey with a win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru. A team effort from the CSK batters helped them chase down a target of 174 with relative ease. CSK won the opening match of IPL 2024 by 6 wickets. They extend their superb home record against RCB and it’s now 8-1 in CSK’s favor at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Today RCB batted first. Mustafizur Rahman enjoyed a dream outing with the ball for CSK. When RCB were motoring along, having reached 41/0 in 4.3 overs, CSK hit back. Soon they were 78/5. Mustafizur got both Kohli (21 runs off 20) and du Plessis (35 runs of 23), when they were settling. He got Rajat Patidar also, where Chahar dismissed dangerous Maxwell on the very first ball he faced. But Green (18 off 22), Anuj Rawat (48 runs off 25 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (38* off 26 balls) helped RCB to post 173 on board in 20 overs, putting up 95 runs off 50 balls for the sixth wicket.
CSK’s openers, Rachin and Gaikwad got off to a flier. Rachin had a debut to remember as he blasted a 15-ball 37. Gaikwad (15 off 15) eventually fell to Yash Dayal, who has come in as an Impact Player substitute for Dinesh Karthik. Then Ajinkya Rahane came to the show. CSK smashed 62 runs in the powerplay for the loss of one wicket. Ravindra ended up falling for 37 off 15 balls. Rahane scored 27 off 19. Then Daryl Mitchell (22 off 18 balls), CSK impact player Shivam Dube (34* off 28) and Ravindra Jadeja (25* off 27 balls) got the job done for CSK. Mustafizur Rahman received player of the match award for picking up 4 wickets to rock RCB’s top order.
