England’s remarkably turnaround and secured thrilling 28-run victory against India in the first Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. After taking a lead of 190 runs in the first innings India lost to Ollie Pope’s epic 196 runs innings and Tom Hartley’s wonderful 7-62 in his Test Debut.
Batting first England scored 246 runs in their first Innings. Then Indian batters played great and get 190 runs lead scoring 436 runs. England in their 2nd Innings also started to collapse. But Ollie Pope’s epic 196 runs innings turned around the cards. Other than him Duckett scored 47, all other English batters could not even reach 40s. So, it was a one man show from pope and England scored 420 runs in their 2nd Innings.
India needed 231 to win the match. But Hartley’s 7-62 in his debut Test wrecked India. They were all out for 202. Rohit Sharma’s 39 was the top score by an Indian batter in the second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin (28) and Srikar Bharat (28) added 57 runs for the eighth wicket to try to take the match into its final day but at last India lost by 28 runs. Ollie Pope awarded as Player of the match. The second match of the five-Test series is in Visakhapatnam. Match will begin on Friday.
