The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will not be staged overseas, this has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after some reports suggested a possible shift due to General Election in India. BCCI secretary Jay Shah clarified this to a well known Cricket News Portal.
The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the general elections. Elections are scheduled to take place in seven phases from April 19 to June 4 all over India. Phase 1 polling will be held on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third on May 7, fourth on May 13, fifth on May 20, sixth on May 25 and the final on June 1. The counting will be on June 4. The BCCI already announced the dates for the first 21 games of IPl 2024, scheduled from March 22 to April 7. Speculation had been rife regarding the IPL potentially relocating to the United Arab Emirates due to the coinciding election period. But both the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal denied the rumors.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal clarified to PTI, “The IPL is not being shifted anywhere. We will soon announce the remaining fixture.” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told to an all India News Paper, “Complete IPL will happen in India only. BCCI is working on the full schedule and will make it public soon.” The defending champions Chennai Super Kings set to kick off the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their home ground on March 22.
