Cricket to be included in the Olympics : Report

Now it is great news for the cricket fans all around the world, specially for Indians. Cricket is set to be included in the Olympics. According to a report by the Guardian, if everything goes along with the plan, Cricket will be an event in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. As per the report, after the International Olympic Committee’s 141st session in Mumbai on Sunday, the Los Angeles Olympics organising committee’s decision will be announced officially.

Cricket has been played once before at the Olympics, in 1900. At that time England and France played a single match for the Gold Medal. The T20 Cricket format will be introduced for men and women in the Olympics. Not only Cricket, five new proposed sprots are expected to be formally confirmed by LA after intense discussions between LA and the IOC’s Olympic programme commission. Other sports are squash, lacrosse, flag football and baseball/softball.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Greg Barclay said, “We are delighted that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics. While this is not the final decision, it is a very significant landmark towards seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century.”
